We firmly believe in the healing powers that animals have with people. Companionship with a dog can do remarkable work for the human soul. We are honored to announce that People, Pets & Vets had the opportunity to donate $10,000 to provide a therapy dog to Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Above and Beyond “is a licensed Level I and Level II outpatient addiction treatment facility located on the West side of Chicago. They are a not-for-profit 501C3 corporation, with private funding to ensure that no one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.”
Turning Point Recovery Centers reports that service and therapy animals, especially dogs, offer a newfound level of peace during sobriety by helping them cope with triggers, panic, or anxiety attacks and providing companionship. Therapy dogs are also beneficial
to those battling addiction because taking care of the animal is an act of service and love, which correlates with the steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, which are the core values of those programs. Those in recovery and navigating through sobriety claim that therapy animals are great for their journey because animals are judgment-free and pure. Animals are only capable of love and acceptance; they never turn away love from humans due to their past or actions.
