It’s National Employee Appreciation Day! People, Pets & Vets would like to thank all our amazing employees for their hard work and dedication in providing the best client and animal care possible. While this is a great day to celebrate, it is more important that we acknowledge the meaning behind it, while also focusing on building a culture of everyday appreciation. The importance of employee appreciation can’t be overstated – appreciation strategies have been proven to reduce staff turnover, improve productivity and efficiency, retain clients at a higher rate, and make more profits. Most importantly, both at work and in their lives. When you appreciate, it infuses everything you do with purpose, energy, and enthusiasm.
Managers often limit feedback to formal performance reviews, which only happen once or twice a year. Instead, provide feedback at regular intervals so employees can continue to grow and improve. Having an open-door policy creates trust and gives the opportunity for constant communication.
Encourage your staff to interact throughout the day and outside of work without having to worry about whether they’re being watched or judged. Conversations related to the business are surely important, but that doesn’t mean your staff doesn’t need a break occasionally.
Setting aside some time to help an employee who is struggling in their job can go quite a long way. If you truly don’t have time you can assign another mentor to take the reins. If someone is mentoring the employee in need, you can rest easy knowing that no one is being left behind.
Celebrating your staff is essential. Highlight achievements in the workplace along with specific occasions to celebrate such as, birthday parties, work anniversaries, or major professional achievements.
There are several ways to incorporate fun into the workday, and the benefits that doing so can have on employee engagement levels within your hospital are countless. Fun activities help lower stress levels and serve as bonding activities for your workers.
Remember, every year Employee Appreciation Day is celebrated on the first Friday in March, but you don’t have to limit the recognition to one day! Consider the above practices to show your team some love, on Employee Appreciation Day!
